7th Circuit Overturns Illinois’ Ban on Conceal and Carry

Today the 7th Circuit overturned Illinois’ ban on carrying concealed weapons and gave the state Legislature 180 days to draft a law that would allow for state wide conceal and carry.

Judge Posner, in his majority opinion, wrote:”

The Supreme Court has decided that the [Second] amendment confers a right to bear arms for self-defense, which is as important outside the home as inside. The theoretical and empirical evidence (which overall is inconclusive) is consistent with concluding that a right to carry firearms in public may promote self-defense
